    Porn Merchants Respond to Apple

Sex merchants were obviously outraged over Apple’s house cleansing recently, which saw most sex related applications given the axe. Outrage was further magnified when similar applications of larger companies were not given the same treatment. (Notably Sports Illustrated and Playboy.) Now, mobile porn dealers are starting to voice their distaste for Apple’s terminology. ‘It’s hypocritical: it seems Apple are happy to continue with what they consider to be big respected brands such as Sports Illustrated and Playboy,’ said Cherrysauce Managing Director Julia Dimamsbro. I have always wondered why Apple doesn’t simply use age verification instead of removing R rated applications. My thoughts were echoed by Steve Shields from Katrina Leisure. ‘Mind you, it is equally…

    Apple Continues to be Dishonest

Apple has been on a crusade to purge all sexually oriented content from the App Store. Many small developers have received notice that their applications will no longer be available. Apple henchman, Phillip W. Schiller, explained that many complaints were received regarding the raunchy content available on the App Store and that many of the complaints came from women who found the content degrading. Phill, I suggest you stop lying. These women could not have known about how raunchy the app content was without downloading it. Thus, they selected apps with sexual themes because they were satisfying an urge. In addition, one third of all the money earned from sexual products world wide comes from women. In typical Apple hypocrisy, the SI and Playboy applications were not…

Apple Bans All Sexual Content from App Store

For all those who are wondering, the sad news from Cupertino is official, or as official as things can get before they are changed. Apple has banned all apps with sexual innuendo. From this day forward, until Emperor Jobs decides otherwise, the App Store will not include any apps featuring scantly clad women, including bikinis and under garments. Of course, nudity was never allowed, but now videos, video games and pictures with sexual tones will no longer be allowed. This ‘G’ rating approach is apparently intended to clean the App Store prior to the release of the iPad. Apple wishes to market the iPad to hospitals, church groups and schools, who may object to this type of sexual service offered in the App Store. While there is no arguing with this logic, why Apple can’t…

Apple Cleaning Up the App Store

Apple has been doing a little ‘house cleaning’ in the App Store recently. Several prominent online and paper publications have reported that Apple has been scrutinizing apps that content sexual themes a little more closely and has been removing those that they deem inappropriate. Apparently, this mission is necessary in order to make the App Store a little more family friendly prior to the release of the iPad. The effort in providing families a more PG environment should be commended, but it does reek of fascism. Why Apple refuses to offer adult services behind a safety net of some kind is beyond rational thought. It shouldn’t be too difficult to offer a ‘Night Store’ section in the App Store, where access can only be obtained by creating a separate user account and…

Beta Version of Adobe Air Released

Adobe has released a beta version of Adobe Air for mobile developers. Compatible with Android, BlackBerry, webOS and Windows Mobile, Adobe Air allows app developers to create web apps for mobile, bypassing the need to use an app distribution service. Naturally, Adobe Air is not available for the iPhone, but Adobe has confirmed that it is developing Adobe Packager that will bypass restrictions set by Apple. While Emperor Steve Jobs and his minions continue with their stubborn secluded ways, it is inevitable that the free market will begin to impose its ways upon them by force. Adobe Air will be based on Flash Player 10.1 and will allow app developers to use geolocation, multi-touch, accelerometers, gesture inputs, and screen orientation. Adobe plugged their new product…

    The Cheapest Valentine’s Gift Ever

Society as we know it is nearing total collapse. This was evident with the app called Send Flowers for the iPhone. No, it is not an app that helps you deliver flowers to that special someone, but rather an app that sends eFlowers. (God help us all.) Any cheap bastards out there, who are actually considering sending eFlowers, then be aware that this disgrace of an app costs $0.99. Just make sure that you bring her (we are assuming that only guys could be cheap enough to use Send Flowers) a two thousand dollar diamond ring afterwards to make up for your frugality. Otherwise, you and your hand will be getting better acquainted over the coming months. Honestly, you would be better off with a box of chocolates from the pharmacy and a $20 gift certificate for iTunes. Wait a…

Apple Officially Become A Totalitarian Regime

I often tend to make partially facetious references to Apple’s corporate ideology. Tyranny, Evil Empire and Third Reich are just some of the references I have used to describe that company that most of us love to hate. But the latest chutzpah from Cupertino has me questioning the humor equation. Apple has apparently banned the use of the word Android from the App Store. An app called Flash of Genius was submitted to the App Store and in the description was the following: ‘Finalist in Google’s Android Developer’s Challenge!’ Apple's response was ‘Providing future platform compatibility plans or other general platform references are not relevant in the context of the iPhone App Store. While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to remove…

App Store Very Good for Gameloft

I personally am not a huge fan of iPhone games, but there is no denying that they have been successful in becoming an integral part of the App Store. With that success, monetary rewards bloom with abundance. Gameloft, one of the leading video game companies, has reported an increase in revenue of 231 percent in 2009, when compared to the previous year. Gameloft’s annual financial results show that 25 million USD were generated from sales in the App Store in 2009. This success can be attributed to not only stellar game creation, but the overall emergence of the App Store as the leading wireless application provider in the world. The total earnings from game apps sold on the App Store comprise around 22 percent of Gameloft’s total earnings. This is certainly a significant…

iPhone App Saves Life in Haiti

Aside from being the most significant telecommunications device to be released in the last few years, the iPhone is also proving to be a life saver… literally. An interesting story has penetrated mainstream news and the blogosphere, which reports that a documentary director's life was saved due to a medical application on his iPhone after he was buried during the Haiti disaster. The director, Dan Woolley, used an app called Jive Media Pocket First Aid and CPR in order to treat the injuries he was suffering. Woolley claimed that he used everything from a sock to his shirt in order to patch his injuries until help arrived. Without the instructions and guidance of the app, he may have very well succumbed to his injuries. Aside from being overjoyed at being alive, we are…

Doom Classic Available On The iPhone

I remember Doom. Having just discovered computers as a young child, I happily wasted countless hours blasting aliens and bashing my keyboard. Now, the great first person shooter that started it all is available for the iPhone. A reason to celebrate? Not really. From time to time, many of us avid gamers will replay games from the past in hopes of recapturing some of the nostalgic enjoyment that was inseparable from our childhood. Unfortunately, most of us quickly realize that you can never go back. The classic Doom looks so dated now, that it hurts my eyes. Placing the same old game on the iPhone doesn’t make it any more tolerable. An old and forgotten game on a new platform doesn’t really increase the fun factor in my book. Am I a huge fan of playing video games on the…
