Fruit Machine Gold Rocks the App Store

A gambling application called Fruit Machine Gold is creating some serious waves in the App Store. Fruit Machine Gold is ranked number one on the Casino chart in the App Store and is in the top 30 paid apps overall. Personally, I have not played Fruit Machine Gold, but I can only assume that it is a slots application and that it is gambling in nature. I have no problem with Fruit Machine Gold, but I do have a problem with Apple. Could someone working in the fortress over at Cupertino please explain to me why gambling is ok, but sexual content isn’t? There is no argument that Apple’s business terminology is very often hypercritical. However, this is just insulting. At least Apple should officially announce that it removed adult applications for purely financial and public…

    iPundit for the iPhone

World Cup fever is in full swing and fans of the beautiful game all over the globe can hardly contain their excitement. Due to this insanity, it should not surprise anyone that an application for the iPhone has surfaced that attempts to make the World Cup that much more exciting. Enter iPundit, which is an application that will allow you and you friends to compete in World Cup predictions in the form of a fantasy league. Users will compete by guessing the correct outcome of matches in a variety of categories, including final score and number of goals scored. The iPundit comes equipped with a football guru called Mr. Pundit who will provide you with many tips and even tell the odd joke. Great stuff if you’re a football fan gearing up for the World Cup. I personally don’t…

Apple sells over 2 Million iPads

Apple has sold over 2 million iPads. The Cupertino based tech firm made the recent announcement that comes 60 days after the device’s release. The majority of sales have come from the United Sates, but that is scheduled to change with the launch of the iPad in Canada and some countries in Europe and Asia. Steve Jobs has recently behaved more fanatical that usual, shaking his fist in defiance at anyone who dares challenge him. With the iPhone HD scheduled for release soon, we can only assume the Lord Job’s behavior will worsen. 5,000 apps have been created specifically for the iPad thus far and Apple is expecting developers to continue with this impressive release rate. Apple may have trouble increasing the amount of apps for the iPad after many developers have become…

SIRIUS XM Now Available on Android

SIRIUS XM, the rouge non-terrestrial radio service has announced a new application for the Android OS. Android users can listen to SIRIUS XM radio stations (120 in all) on their device. The application is free to try for seven days and requires a subscription in order to be used afterwards. SIRIUS XM is considered by some to be a breakthrough on the fascist hold the FCC has on the radio. The satellite based radio service is home to Howard Stern, the legendary disc jockey and all around personality that revolutionized radio. SIRUIS XM will be compatible with the DROID, DROID ERIS, Hero, G1, CLIQ and DROID Incredible. Pretty much all Android handsets will be able to use this new service. The only stumbling block is the hefty price tag, but the old adage ‘you get what you…

Kindle Coming to Android this Summer

The new Amazon Kindle application for the Android is scheduled to arrive this summer. Currently compatible with the iPhone and BlackBerry devices, the new Android compatible app will provide Android users with access to over half a million e-books via a mobile store. The application itself is free, but the books are not. The biggest complaint over the e-book concept is the cost, which is often higher than the paperback version. This is a major roadblock for consumers, who cannot fathom why the price of an electronic version is higher than the tangible version of the same product. I would concur with the market in this case, but Amazon has been very successful with their current price scheme and it is unlikely that we will see price reduction in the near future. The…

    SkyMall Coming to the BlackBerry

SkyMall Mobile is now available on the BlackBerry. This free application can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World for free or from the SkyMall Mobile website. The application was created in part by a company called Digby, which specializes in mobile commerce solutions. Users will have access to an immense catalogue of over 10,000 items that can be purchased securely, directly via the application. The COO of SkyMall, Jay Scannell, was quick to hype his service by saying, ‘these mobile capabilities give our customers even greater flexibility in how they browse and purchase SkyMall products. The BlackBerry application was a natural step for us to take in delivering convenience and additional shopping options to our customers.’ Digby CEO Dave Sikora echoed this thought. …

Call for More Transparency from Apple

A laughable and pathetic movement is growing in the mobile industry. Journalists and developers are calling for a more transparent App Store. While this is a wet dream for us all, the mere thought that the clandestine Apple would even consider such a move is beyond imaginable. This movement was started in part after the cartoon debacle involving a Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist named Mark Fiore. Apparently, his cartoon application was rejected for questionable humor towards political figures. A bunch of angry cartoonists attacked Apple with an angry letter. “The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists calls on Apple to immediately stop rejecting apps because they ‘ridicule public figures’ and are deemed ‘objectionable,” the association wrote. “Now is the time…

    Games for the iPad

The release of the iPad is drawing near and with it, more and more speculation and rumor. Some well known video game publishers have started to reveal titles they plan on releasing for the iPad soon after its launch. Screenshots have been made available and are not very impressive to say the least. While it is difficult to judge a book by its cover, and a screenshot is not ideal when judging a video game of any kind, it does give you a decent first impression about the kind of game that is going to be released. From what I have seen, there are plenty of puzzle and platform games that are sure to dishearten the average gamer. Even though most of us were smart enough to realize that the iPad is not going to be a gaming Mecca, Apple’s hype has perhaps fooled us slightly…

    Vatican App for the iPhone

The Vatican is set to launch an official app for the iPhone. Hell bent (no pun intended) on spreading religious fanaticism across mobile channels; the Catholic Church has decided to embrace cutting edge social technology. This move by the Pope and his gang is not the first religious application for the iPhone. Several already exist in the App Store for your religious pleasure. The Vatican has decreed however, that theirs is the official app of the Catholic movement. Video messages will be sent to the masses that download the application to their phones. This would be extremely beneficial to men who are dragged to church every Sunday and then accused of not paying attention to the sermon. ‘Honest dear. I wasn’t listening to the Football game, I swear. It’s this new app…

    The New BlackBerry Super Apps

The mobile industry, much like other industries, has suffered from its fair share of BS. Another classic example took place during the Mobile World Congress, when some dude by the name of Mike Lazaridis dubbed the term ‘Super App’. What is a Super App? From the BlackBerry Developer Page: ‘A Super App for BlackBerry smartphones is an app that delivers a compelling user experience by leveraging the unique capabilities of the BlackBerry platform. Super Apps are the kind of apps that people love and use every day because they offer such a seamless, integrated, contextualized and efficient experience.’ What the hell does that even mean? It’s a bunch of stinky cow crap in my opinion. Before BlackBerry starts concentrating on Super Apps, it would be perhaps prudent to invest…
