Apple iPad for Moms?

After the much anticipated iPad presentation by Apple chief Steve Jobs, the usual applause and snorts could be read and heard throughout the media and the blogosphere. Geeks bashed the iPad on several key technological specifications, while Apple lemmings roared their approval after catching a glimpse of the familiar icons. (Look at all them pretty colors!) There was however, one comment from the media that really caught my attention. Apple is targeting Moms and not tech geeks. Of course Moms means non-techie types in this situation. Would a ‘Mom’ buy an iPad for $500? No. Would senior citizens by an iPad for $500? No. Would students by an iPad for $500? Yes, but most can’t afford it. This is perhaps the one great flaw in the iPad that signals its unavoidable death

The Apple Tablet Is Upon Us

We are only minutes away from the grand unveiling of the Apple Tablet. Legions of fans and tech geeks from around the world are as giddy as teenagers witnessing pornography for the first time. The rumored $1000 price tag has not deterred the enthusiasm and curiosity that has rippled through many a social community for the past several months. When Steve Jobs and company reveal their latest creation, many of Apple’s disciples will surely begin to salivate at the prospect of taking another step to creating a true iLiving. But there is one very fat problem. The expectations are so damn high, that only a very majestic presentation of an equally majestic product will meet expectations. Can Apple do it? They possess a good track record, but I am afraid that they may have set

The Apple Tablet is Coming

Apple is all geared up for the supposed unveiling of the new tablet 48 hours from now in San Francisco. Hordes of Apple worshippers, some who would love nothing more than to serve Steve Jobs as body slaves or even nibble on his feces, are waiting breathlessly. (It wouldn’t surprise us if several Applites suffered a heart attack leading up to the unveiling. What worries some industry experts is the misguided and ignorant opinion that anything Apple does turns into magic and makes our world a better place. Apple has had a single industry changing invention throughout their history. That of course, is the iPod Touch. The iPhone is really just an iPod with a phone and the Mac, while a very good product overall, was not really a game changer when look at the tech industry

iPhone Factory Employees Strike!

Apple’s domineering and despotic ideology has finally started to anger the masses. The voice of freedom in the face of malicious tyranny has not come for the general public, but rather from employees at an outsourced iPhone assembly plant. Two thousand disgruntled employees walked off the job, furious over the lack of bonus compensation that was promised and hazardous working conditions that could possibly have resulted in the deaths of several employees in 2009. Wintek, the owner of the assembly plant, has vehemently denied any connection between working conditions and the health of employees, but has not offered an alternative theory concerning the rash of deaths that plagued the plant last year. One speculation is that Wintek cut corners for financial reasons and

Apple’s Tablet Revealed Next Week

It is now confirmed that Apple will be revealing its new tablet next week. For months now, rumors have been circulating that Apple may be releasing a tablet device in 2010. Of course, there were far too many rumors regarding this much anticipated Apple product for them not to carry some merit. In fact, we can all agree that the corporate totalitarian regime in Cupertino was responsible for the original rumors in order to get the Blogosphere into a frenzied state. The Wall Street Journal has released some information regarding the content that will be available and also indicates that Apple has been talking with several publishers regarding the use of their content on the tablet. What has not been officially revealed as of yet, are the technical specifications. Pertinent

Smartphone Wars Heating Up

The Smartphone wars in 2010 promise a never ending bout of heavyweight competition, as multi billion dollar corporations struggle to gain or maintain their share of the mobile market. The current reigning and defending, yet sometimes disputed champion, Apple, has continued to do well. Their latest fortune is coming from across the pond, as British carrier Vodafone reports a shortage in available iPhones, do to a stellar debut which saw 50,000 iPhones sold on the first day of availability. Google and Android are also stepping up the competition, with five more handsets announced by AT&T, all of which are scheduled to debut sometime during 2010. The Android shower of handsets entering the market has just been upgraded to a Hurricane. It will be very interesting to see if

Kodak Sues Apple

Apple's thieving and conniving ways appear to have finally caught up with it. A rash of lawsuits has been thrown in Apple’s direction, the majority of which have to do with patent infringement. This time around, the company seeking retribution is Kodak. The imaging and photography company are complaining that Apple has committed two different acts of patent infringement. The first instance is related to imaging viewing and resolution that the iPhone uses and the second has to do with computer app help. Regardless of what one may think of Apple, it is with great certainty that we conclude that at least a portion of these lawsuits carry some merit. No honorable organization would ever have to endure such damaging legal ramifications. We all know that Apple is not the most

I Make, Therefore I Am King

I am not a huge fan of corporate America, but articles, like the one I saw recently at PC World; make my head spin with anger. In a nutshell, the article discussed how Apple blocks third parties from using their software, citing the example of how the Pre cannot sync with iTunes in order to upload audio. The author, who I must commend for having a pleasant writing style, argued that Apple should be more flexible with other companies and more cooperative in order to ensure a better user experience. I am going to say this one more time for anyone who doesn’t understand: the creator of anything does not owe others anything. It cannot be described in more layman terms than that. Apple created iTunes for example and they do not have to let others play with it. Now, that may

Apple Tablet More Than Rumor

While still considered rumors by some, there is no denying that a tablet of some sort will emerge this year, courtesy of the fruit company from Cupertino. (That’s Apple by the way.) Further shattering any possibility that a tablet won’t be released by Apple occurred recently when a VP from Orange confirmed that an Apple tablet with video calling will be released some time soon. Now that rumor is slowly morphing into fact, the question still remains regarding the name of the tablet. I prefer iPay, due to the rumored $1000 price tag. Here are several other names that Apple may want to take into consideration:
1. iCrap: This will only be appropriate if the product sucks.
2. iTablet: Straight forward, but lacking any wit.
3. iSlate: Sounds cool,

New Web App Service for the iPhone

Steve Sheraton, creator of the iPhone app iBeer, has unveiled a new service that will allow iPhone users to download applications from outside the App Store. This service is completely legal and can be used by iPhone users who have not unlocked their devices. Some have decreed the Sheraton is a magician, when in reality, all he is really doing is allowing users to bookmark web applications based out of his Your App Shop. The user presses the icon on his iPhone and a web page opens up that can function as an application. While there is nothing wrong with doing this, it can’t be deemed a ‘bypass’ to the App Store. I am not saying that Sheraton is doing something wrong. On the contrary, the Your App Shop does carry merit and could possibly blossom into an excellent
