Ericsson to Open Innovation Centre in Africa

Attention! This is a salute that goes out to Ericsson. Not Sony Ericsson, but just the Swedish half. Ericsson will be establishing some sort of innovation centre in Africa that will target cell phone applications that will benefit society in a positive way. The innovation centre will also act as a think tank of sorts for improving health care, sustenance and stimulating business in the Dark Continent. Obviously, the purpose of this expedition/venture is two fold. 1) Help make the world a better and more positive place and 2) Make Ericsson a whole truckload of money. This is the blueprint of how successful business should be conducted and not how some companies (Apple, Vodafone, Verizon, the United States Government, Wal-Mart, etc…) behave in such a profiteering and…

PSP Cell Phone Coming in October

Circle the middle of October in red on your calendars people, because that’s when the Play Station Portable joins the cell phone industry. Sony has announced that the latest addition of their super popular portable gaming console, the PSP, will double as a cell phone. This new cell phone video game hybrid will be released in the United States and Europe, with no timetable present for release in other parts of the world. The dilemma here for Sony is the target market. Is this a cell phone with gaming capabilities, much like the iPhone and a few others out there, or is this a game console that doubles as a phone. As far as gaming is concerned, no cell phone comes close to competing with the PSP. The only problem may be the physical alteration, which would be of paramount…

Sony Ericsson to Launch PlayNow Music Service

Sony Ericsson is gearing for the release of their online music service known as PlayNow. Sony Ericsson has yet to announce which cell phones in its lineup will have PlayNow available, but with the cell phone giant busy striking up deals and contracts signed in blood with the music industry, it would appear that PlayNow and Sony Ericsson are going to provide some stiff competition for the online music market. The only cause for worry as far as Sony Ericsson is concerned, is the multiple online mobile music services that have reared their ugly head over the last little while. Vodafone, O2, Nokia and of course Apple, all presently have or will soon have their own variation of PlayNow. Success for Sony Ericsson in this endeavor really comes down to how much mobile content…

Sony Ericsson to Release the T700

Sony Ericsson has announced the release of the T700 handset which is scheduled to appear on shelves sometime near the end of the year. A quick scan of the specs of the T700 gives the impression that Sony Ericsson has once again provided us with a solid cellular phone. The T700 is a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and a UMTS/HSDPA 2100 MHz device. It will also include a decent 3.2 megapixel camera and Bluetooth to go along with a 512MB memory card. After the initial excitement wears off, some of us big fingered North Americans will surely be appalled by the extremely uncomfortable button configuration of the T700. It would be nice if cell phone manufacturers would actually remember that some people in this world have big hands and that not all of us have…

It’s Bond, James Bond…. and the C902 Cyber-shot by Sony Ericsson.
