Palm has officially thrown itself at the mercy of the market; desperate to find a buyer before it disintegrates. Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein admitted that launching the Palm Pre exclusively on Sprint was a major mistake. He further commented that the Palm Pre is superior to the Motorola Droid and would have enjoyed more financial success had it been available via North America’s largest carrier. Rubenstein thus admits that it was not the Pre itself that has placed Palm in this financial toilet, but rather his own incompetence as a business man. Reports from Bloomberg have Dell snubbing such a buyout, but HTC and Lenovo are considering the acquisition. Whoever buys Palm will not only receive rights to the Palm, Pixi and WebOS, but several patents that Palm has for mobile technology. The last may not be worth much in the current climate, with patent infringement as commonplace as a Lindsey Lohan overdose.
