Palm appears to be down for the count. This was confirmed by Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein last week when he stated that Palm would be listening to reasonable acquisition offers. This downward trend has been plaguing Palm for several years now. Once a pioneer in wireless technology, the company has failed to keep pace with the competition over the last several years. Palm was praying for a successful endeavor with the Palm and Pixi handsets, but sales and revenue have been below expectations. It was reported that Palm was only able to sell roughly 50% of the units shipped to distributors. At this point, it is unclear which players in the market will be gunning for the Palm franchise. Microsoft is a possibility and some experts believe that an acquisition is likely to come from a company not currently involved in the design and manufacturing of mobile phones. Palm has numerous patents to its name, which makes its purchase legitimate in the eyes of many.
