With the hype surrounding the iPad, it was only a matter of time before rumor and hype regarding slates and tablets from other manufacturers would begin to pick up steam in the rumor mill. According to Emmanuele Silanesu, an executive over at Samsung, the tech giant will be releasing a slate type device in the second half of 2010. There is nothing confirmed as of yet regarding this incarnation, but some speculate that the device would be using an Intel Atom processor. Several other prominent companies have announced that they will be releasing a device similar to the iPad this year. This could be a death sentence for Apple, as the company could attribute much of their previous success on being the only major player in their market niche for an extended period of time. Without that comfort zone and with their competitor’s proven track record in other technical developments, Apple could very quickly be down for the count.
