Despite all of the hoopla regarding the deal struck between Skype and Symbian that saw the addition of Skype on Ovi, Skype has decided not to offer the service via Ovi in the United States. Why you ask? Because Verizon told them not to. Instead, Skype and Verizon will be hyping their new partnership which was announced recently as well. Symbian users in the United States will still be able to download the Skype application, but will have to do it from the Skype website instead of the Ovi Store. This isn’t the end of the world really. Symbian users who are dreaming of using Skype will still be allowed to download the free chat service for their phones. The only real shame is that yet another decent product was tinkered with by profiteering corporate hounds. Then again, companies like Skype need the money from profiteering corporate hounds like Verizon in order to survive.
