Palm’s sales of the Pre and Pixi on Verizon have been a disappointment. Palm placed some of the blame on Verizon, issuing this statement: "Verizon acknowledged that their execution of our launch was below expectations and recommitted to working with us to improve sales.” Perhaps there is some merit to this statement, but the biggest reason the Palm is struggling in the Smartphone market is actually two fold. First of all, the Pre and Pixi are not the phones they once were when compared to the devices offered by the competition. They were never top notch to begin with and now are starting their inevitable technological decline. The second reason is that there is no such thing as the ‘Smartphone Market’ anymore. Most phones today are Smartphones and the increase in competition has pushed Palm aside. Let’s not forget that Palm is a small company compared to rivals Apple and Google, just to name a few. It would be like a mom and pop pizza place wondering why they can’t compete with Pizza Hut.
