The endless struggle between Apple and Nokia continues with no solution immanent. Now Apple has raised the stakes, asking the U.S International Trade Commission to look into what it describes as blatant patent infringement by the Finnish mobile manufacturer. Last year, Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple, claiming that Apple has committed patent infringement against it on seven different occasions. This whole mess just goes to show that even powerful businessmen and women can behave like immature rug rats. Both of these companies must realize that nothing will be resolved in a courtroom. If the ITC rules against Nokia, the Fins will in turn ask for the help of the European Union in resolving this matter. With literally billions of dollars at stake, political animals from both North America and Europe will eventually meet in a small, dimly lit room somewhere and solve the problem. Money will be transferred, favors will be exchanged and this problem will simply melt away. Such is the reality of a society where the corporate world and the political world are intertwined.
