Kaspersky, a leading anti virus software manufacturer, is trying to make a few extra dollars during these turbulent and decadent economic times. Kaspersky analyst Roel Schouwenberg claims that 2010 will be the year Android devices get their first taste of malicious viruses. Schouwenberg says 'Android users, in particular, seem ripe for plundering. "The increasing popularity of mobile phones running the Android operating system, combined with a lack of effective checks to ensure third-party software applications are secure, will lead to a number of high-profile malware outbreak." While nobody is accusing Roel and Kaspersky of lying, this statement would surly have carried some increased merit had it been made by a third party source, rather than an entity that stands to profit greatly from such fear mongering. (U.S. Government ring a bell?) Open source software such as the Android are considered especially susceptible to viruses, due to the lack of scrutiny over third party services.
