China has reared its ugly communist head yet again. This time, the lack of personal freedom and expression comes in the form of apps. China has banned apps related to the hated Dalai Lama. A search for Dalai Lama apps in the Chinese App Store did not yield any results, though there were several hits when the search was made from other countries. Apple, obviously interested in fattening its already gargantuan bottom line, has complied. This is just another example of China blocking information that it does not want its constituents to encounter. iPhone users in China should rally by dumping their iPhones in a polluted river somewhere. Of course, doing that may incur the wrath of the government, who can in turn simply kill the demonstrators without thought or worry of the consequences. I guess a heavily restricted and regulated app store is better than no app store, but just barely.
