A new smear commercial by AT&T bashing Verizon is the latest tirade by a mobile carrier, chest thumping its service and belittling the competition. The mobile landscape has become more repulsive than a political battleground, with carriers taking no prisoners. This particular commercial by AT&T stars Luke Wilson, who compares AT&T and Verizon on several key features, with Verizon only coming out on top in the category of ‘carrier that starts with a V’. I honestly believe that viewers are growing tired of these types of commercials and that their impact on consumer purchasing habits are negligible. AT&T and Verizon, being the two biggest carriers in the United States, are naturally going to take direct shots at each other. The problem is that these commercials aren’t particularly well done. For example, had this recent AT&T commercial been witty or surprising, then perhaps it would have carried more merit, but to simply behave like children arguing whose father is stronger is rather disappointing and perhaps even unprofessional.
