The telecommunications regulator in South Korea has approved the sale of the iPhone. Korean carrier KT Corp, the country’s second largest carrier, has promised to start taking pre-orders on the internet later this month. South Korea is the last major industrialized nation to get the iPhone, with fellow Asian country China selling the iPhone as of last month. One of the reasons non of the South Korean carriers offered the iPhone officially up to this point, is because of a government policy that phones must provide a certain standard of location based services and maps. This obstacle has apparently been solved however, with the South Korean regulator allowing local carriers to handle this requirement on Apple’s behalf. While this foray into South Korea is good in theory, the iPhone has not sold well in every market. iPhone sales in Japan have been disappointing for example, showing that some countries are not embracing Apple’s propaganda.
