With out a lot of hoopla or chest thumping, a company called Livestation has released an iPhone app with the same name that allows users to view live streaming news. Livestation is available in 16 different countries across Europe, but has not been officially released for American viewers at the time of this writing. Currently, the only available news channel on Livestation is BBC World News, though one would assume that a greater selection will follow in due course. Livestation can be used with both Wi-Fi and 3G. Livestation has already attracted corporate interest, with NASA apparently mulling over the notion of launching a live streaming channel based on Livestation technology. As with all live streaming applications, the video better remain super smooth and super fast in order to be considered usable. While most of us can tolerate some lag when watching a movie, (Just go make a cup of coffee and come back.) anything live does not share the same consideration. I don’t live in Europe, but I would give this app a try if they offered a few more channels.
