How does Apple get itself into these predicaments time after time? For a fascist entity with little remorse, the App Store continually finds itself blasted with bad publicity due to the apps it approves. (Not that it hurts Apple’s bottom line.) This time around, a new app called A Sex Offender Locator is attracting some heat and controversy. A Sex Offender Locator provides iPhone users with information about sexual offenders in their area. Addresses pictures and more info are all available. Now before privacy advocates start crying foul, it should be remembered that all of this information is already available on the internet for free. But here is the big kicker. A Sex Offender Locator is not a free app. It costs $0.99 cents and that is why I personally have a huge problem with this whole scenario. For a private enterprise to profit off such information is not only illegal, but also immoral. If Apple was even the least bit concerned about doing the right thing, they would never have allowed such an app to be approved. Unfortunately, it is rather obvious that they are not.
