Big BS news out of Brussels today, with the European Commission once again baffling us with its ignorance and naivety. Apparently, the Commission has managed to convince wireless leaders Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Apple, Motorola, Texas Instruments and a few others to create a single EU standard for mobile phone chargers. This is to prevent consumers from throwing out the chargers when they switch phone models. Where is the logic? Just make all phones chargeable via USB and be done with it. I doubt there is a single person across the entire continent of Europe that does not have either access to a computer at home, computer at work, or at the very least a USB adapter. Wouldn’t that be a lot easier, or is there some reason that companies don’t want their customers charging their phones from their computers? God bless the European Commission for concerning itself with the environment and the careless waste of discarded phone chargers, but what’s the point? I sometimes wonder if the EC passes laws just to remind everyone it still exists.
