Recently we reported that Sony Ericsson was on the verge of collapsing. Rising debt and the lack of liquid assets may for the once glorious Swedish and Japanese conglomerate to its knees. We sited several reasons for this rapid decline in fortunes, including poor handset design. However, this latest stunt by Sony Ericsson should have us adding idiotic and clueless to the list. Sony Ericsson has patented facial expressions for musical purposes. The patent is called ‘Generating music playlist for facial expressions.’ The idea is for the handset to detect the mood of the user with its front camera and create a playlist with the appropriate songs. This has to be one the dumbest ideas I have heard of this year. For one, how in the world can the phone know by the mood of the user, which songs he/she wants? You could be in a good mood and want a happy song and you could be in a bad mood and want a happy song. Maybe Sony Ericsson should just go bankrupt. They are making fools out of themselves in the eyes of the telecom industry.
