According to the latest figures that came out in January of 2009, the iPhone is the leading mobile handset for internet traffic. This survey which was conducted by Net Applications (an internet site that tracks applications for the worldwide web) is good news for Apple. The iPhone accounts for almost 0.5% of all traffic on the internet. This January figure shows a growth of almost 10% from the previous month (December ’08). This figure is considerably large seeing that Mac has a share of almost 10% of the pie. Another reason for this to be considered as phenomenal for the iPhone is that the device is limited to a single model. According to the Net Applications report an almost identical share of the market is held by Windows Mobile, Symbian, Blackberry and the Google G1 together. Windows currently has an 88% share of this market. An interesting point to make is the gaming consul’s entry into the Net Applications spreadsheet. Playstation is marked down for 0.04% of the market. Are we going to see a growing trend in these alternate ways to surf the web? The iPhone is the current leader of this trend and their success will definitely be the talk in company boardrooms for some time to come.
