RIM (Research in Motion) and T-Mobile have teamed up to release the BlackBerry Pearl Flip, which is now available for the general public. The Pearl comes with most of what you’d expect from a RIM phone, including a built in Wi-Fi, web browsing and picture messaging. Fans of the clamshell will also be happy to hear that the Pearl comes with a 2.0 mega-pixel camera, Bluetooth and a slot for an external memory card. This is the first clamshell in the BlackBerry line and is yet another example of how RIM is in touch with customer demand. However, business executives will probably shy away from such a device because flip phones are considered less affluent than contemporary standard handsets. While RIM is obviously targeting other market segments with the Pearl Flip, (grandmothers, glee club captains and snobbish adolescents) it is not at all certain that this new phone will be embraced because RIM still carries the stigma of all work and no play.
