Wal-Mart is set to carry the iPhone. While no information has been publicly disclosed, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the world’s biggest and greediest company is now out to make another buck or two. With Radio Shack apparently not in the running to carry the fruit of Apple’s eye, it now falls on Wal-Mart’s wide shoulders to push the iPhone even more into the mainstream public. Apple’s push of the iPhone on to the shelves of the retail giant is an admission that the tech savvy market has pretty much been exploited and now the only way to increase iPhone sales is to pitch the 3G phone to the common man. The problem for Apple is that this market segment may be shrinking at an alarming rate. With a distraught economy and rampant frugality wreaking havoc throughout the western world, there may be very few people both willing and able to purchase the so called ‘Mecca’ of cellular technology. Plus, some folk out there just want a mobile to make phone calls. Shocking I know, but it’s true.
