The resounding victory for Vodafone in the UK regarding number porting over Ofcom and 3 is a clear declaration by the British judicial system that they are willing to the listen to the concerns and desires of big business over the rights of normal citizens. Ofcom and 3 demanded that customers moving from one carrier to another be allowed to transfer their old cell phone number in about 24 hours – currently it takes seven days. Naturally, Vodafone disagreed with this just and honest approach because the army of hundreds of Vodafone employees in charge of persuading customers not to defect needs some time to work. Not so easy when you only have 24 hours eh? Unfortunately, the possibly corrupt or horribly misguided judges voted unanimously against such a change. It wouldn’t surprise this skeptic if the judge’s panel watched V for Vendetta before making their decision. ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could rule the world and treat our citizens like lowly peasant slaves?” is probably what they were thinking.
