Former Nailbomb and Tunnel member Alex Newport (vocals and guitar), David Link (bass), and Ches Smith (drums) formed theory of Ruin in San Francisco in the beginning of the 2000's. In 2002 the group issued its first full-length album called Counter-Culture Nosebleed. The band's EP entitled Frontline Posterchild the next year followed the record.
