ELO were formed by the remaining members of The move in 1970. Frontman Roy Wood left early on, but his concept of taking rock music to new directions was kept by Jeff Lynn and the group of musicians he gathered around him. ELO used classic instruments such as cellos, horns and a violin for their sophisticated, progressive and yet highly successful rock style music.
