Steve Miller and the Steve Miller Band were respected and fared rather well in their first years of playing after forming in 1968, and have even hosted then Beatle Paul McCartney on a song off their Anthology album 9McCartney played the drums). The Joker would come only in 1973, but remain a sweet, witty, well-written song even thirty years later and make the Steve Miller Band an American classic blues-rock recording group.
