Nine-piece heavy metal band Slipknot are often described as alternative metal. It is hard to describe their music as such, however, as Slipknot are basically a loud and raucous band, more noisy than melodic, by far. Wearing masks only adds to Slipknot's estrangement and classifies them a nihilistic musicians.
