Born I 1937, Philip glass has a world of Modernism to draw from and develop his signature minimalist music compositions. Philip glass himself refers to his music as theater music. Like Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein, he has brought high-brow music to rock music listeners, from Beethoven to Kafka, Erol Morris to J.M. Coetzee.
