The music of Papa Roach seems to develop over the years, from their original self-released albums, influenced heavily by rap, to their later style, more melodic and straightforward hard rock. The band's frontman has also gone through a maturing process, now calling himself by his real name Jacoby Shaddix, after earlier pseudonyms Coby dick and Johnny vodka.
