Otis Redding is the soul singer and songwriter behind Aretha Franklin's smash hit Respect. Otis Redding wrote the song as a man's soulful cry for respect from a woman, roles that Aretha changed in her version. With such songs, cross over successes by all standards, Otis Redding performed at the Monterey Pop Festival, a 1967 festival that had the Rolling Stones and Simon and Garfunkel among the artists performing as well.
