Sometimes it seemed that the improvisational pieces on stage by Jerry Garcia and his fellow Grateful Dead members were as long as the band's entire career. By such a free (or even carefree) nature, the Grateful Dead were able to reach places no other band ever knew existed, as one prominent music critic once said.
