Perhaps the greatest jazz trumpeter in history, Dizzy Gillespie contributed more than any other musician to the foundation of bebop, a style he kept to for the majority of his career. Harmonically, Dizzy Gillespie was ahead of everyone else in the 1940s, including Charlie Parker, a fact that would have deterred many in the jazz world but with his pouched cheeks and fun-loving personality he helped carry his style to the masses.
