About Buena Vista Social Club
Ry cooder decided in 1996 to go to Havana and assemble all the Cuban music greats that had lost their fame when Fidel Castro came to power. When he arrived, he assembled together singer Ibrahim Ferrer, guitarists/singers Compay Segundo and Eliades Ochoa, and pianist Rubén González, i.e., The Buena Vista Social Club. The album was released all over the world and received unexpected critical praise. The Buena Vista Social club was instrumental in bringing Cuban music to the attention of the world and in making it popular.
