Aqua has its roots when Claus Norreen and Søren Rasted were grouped together to write a soundtrack for a film. During the work they met René Dif, who was to be their vocalist in Aqua, and Lene Grawford Nystrøm, also a singer. The four had a small single released in
Denmark, but it failed. Their big break was the song "Barbie Girl."
