Raised in Motown - Detroit, Michigan – Anita Baker had her roots deep in R&B from an early age. When only 17, Baker joined the most popular band in town, Chapter 8, but the closure of the record label led Anita back to her hometown to work as a receptionist. Called back to the music world in the 80s, Anita Baker become a multi-platinum selling singer, peaking at number 1 with her 1988 album Giving You The Best That I Got
